Medical conference - Care of older people in hospital

Royal College of Physicians, London
Monday 15th June 2015

The case mix in modern hospitals is increasingly old and complex. Many non-geriatricians have had little training in the care of frail older people with complex needs and as all physicians will need to look after older patients - this one-day conference aims to help provide delegates with the tools and confidence to do this better. The interactive and clinically-applicable programme will cover:

• how to assess the acutely ill older person in the emergency department or AMU
• how to improve rehabilitation, discharge planning and patient flow in hospital
• delirium – prevention and treatment in hospital
• assessing and managing the ‘off legs’ patient
• care of older surgical patients
• improving end of life care for older people admitted to hospital.

The conference is aimed at general physicians; consultants and trainees who undertake general medicine or the acute take as part of their clinical service; acute medicine specialists; non-geriatricians and non-geriatrics specialist trainees, and psychiatrists and GPs interested in the care of older people in hospital.

Our Medical Division look forward to meeting with you all there to discuss further how your preferences for locum work can be met. For those of you not currently interested in locum work for any reason, we present our referrals programme
