How much will I be paid?
Locum rates will vary depending on the position and the hospital. However
a rate per hour will be agreed with you before you start each locum. This
rate will also be paid for any hours worked or on call. You will be paid
weekly and we pay very competitive rates. As indicated above the rate will
vary depending on grade and speciality, however Locum rates are very good,
often being two to three times the NHS salary.

Do I have to pay tax and National Insurance?
Generally you will have to pay income tax and National Insurance. However
as a consultant you may be self employed. If this is the case and you want
to be paid gross, you should obtain the relevant verification from your
tax office or accountant. Please note that without this verification we
will have to deduct tax and national insurance from your pay. Please note
that in certain situations a junior or middle grade doctor can also be paid
gross. Contact us for further details.

locum evenings or weekends, during your holidays, or whilst you are doing
research or studying for exams to earn some extra money quickly. If you

To maximise your opportunities when working
as a locum, firstly register with us. We possess both local knowledge & network strength and will find you suitable locum positions. Remember though,

Once I have supplied my details how does the locum process work?
We are in constant contact with hundreds of trusts throughout the
UK. As soon as they contact us with a locum position that is suitable for
yourself we will contact you immediately and ask if you want to do the locum.
If the answer is yes we will forward you for the position immediately. Generally
you're details are faxed to Medical Staffing and then submitted to the relevant
consultant for consideration. As soon as the hospital confirms that you
are suitable or otherwise we will let you know immediately by telephone.
If you are successful we will confirm with you by sending you a letter of
confirmation giving clear reporting details of when and where to start who
to report to, where to collect your bleep etc., along with any on-call
dates & details of your accommodation etc. Remember to bring some Identification
to the hospital as it may be required.
Along with the letter of confirmation
we will also send you a time sheet. These should be completed to the nearest
quarter of an hour and your mileage should be included if appropriate. These
should then be signed by a Consultant or a senior member from the Medical
Staffing Department and faxed to us immediately. If we receive your time
sheet before Noon on Tuesday you will receive your pay by Friday.
Remember if you are offered a locum position you are under no obligation to accept
it. However if you do accept it please try to honour this commitment if
you can. However if due to unforeseen circumstance you do have to cancel
a locum position then please telephone us immediately so that we can arrange
a replacement.
